Higher doses of oxytocin needed to prevent bleeding after Caesarean in women in labour

It has long beenknown that rates of post-partum haemorrhage are higher after prolongedlabour whether delivery is vaginal or by Caesarean. This study confirmsone possible cause. Among women delivered by Caesarean section a higherdose of oxytocin by infusion is required to achieve satisfactory uterinecontractility and stop bleeding in women who have been in labour.
